FREMONT, Calif. — Nearly 500 students took part in the city’s 15th annual Manufacturing Week in October 2026, gaining a firsthand look at Fremont’s advanced manufacturing employers and potential technical career paths.
Who participated
In its October 16 city newsletter, Fremont reported that 12 local companies participated in the program. Students came from Fremont Unified School District, Ohlone College, Mission Valley Regional Occupational Program, California State University East Bay and San José State University.
Participants toured manufacturing operations and learned about the skills needed for work in modern factories, engineering and research and development. The annual program is organized by the city’s Economic Development team with educational partners.
Why it matters beyond one week
Fremont is a major Bay Area manufacturing hub. Programs connecting students with employers can help show how classroom subjects relate to occupations such as production technology, equipment maintenance, quality control and engineering. They can also broaden students’ awareness of career paths that do not all require the same degree or training route.
The city described Manufacturing Week as an extension of National Manufacturing Day, with multiple tours rather than a single-day public job fair. The event had already taken place by the time this article was published, and the newsletter did not establish that specific employers are now hiring or guarantee jobs for participants.
What students can do next
Students interested in the field can contact school career counselors, Ohlone College or their training program to learn about current technical courses, internships and company outreach. Eligibility, tuition and recruiting information should be confirmed with each institution.
